All Steamed Up, Inc. rebuilt an old WW trap, and B&J, Inc. was kind enough to test it and improve it!

Thanks for posting that Gordo. I tested the other 026 TD-1-5 you sent today. With all stock components, as sent, it made the passing grade but barely. There was def. steam bypassing the thermostatic element. I replaced it with a 4278 cage unit and a new cover w/gasket. Works perfect. I'm hoping that exhausts your secret stash of W-W traps lol

We have one more shell to rebuild, but I don't think we have to send it in to be tested.

We had the two basic types of this trap we worked on ("old style" and "new style") tested by the good folks at B&J for us to gain experience and to act as our quality control.

It is interesting that the unused Webster OEM thermostatic element did not work so well as a new B&J cage unit. Perhaps some fluid leaked away over the decades.

There are a lot of these 026 traps lurking the the basements of some of the finer homes in Baltimore and the surrounding counties. We've so far just replaced them with the modern 6 bolt type of F&T.

About 60 to 70% of the time, they've leaked at the cover gasket and one or more of the hold-down bolts breaks off when you try to remove the cover...not good odds.

I have been tripping over a bucket of, I believe WW F&T's carcasses, in the basement of a 1938 schoolhouse. Any particular model numbers of interest to anyone?

Also I might have to go under the Gym floor thru (hopefully) a tunnel to find 2 end of main F&T traps. Guessing because of the inaccessibility of this area, that these could be original 1938 Webster Warren devices (because who would invite this much grief other than myself?). If so, are there any easy replacement options possible while lying on one's back in the dirt, hoping not to have to unscrew any piping. (Just twist off the bolts instead :'( )
    Thanks for any input.
