we have been asked to quote a price to replace oil fired steam boiler in a home recently purchased by new owner, its a weil mc clain oil fired steam boiler, with a domestic coil,, the coil heats about 1 or2 hot water rads 1st floor and 3-4 small rads 2nd floor its has prv, exp tank and circ, etc,,,, domestic hot water is from electric water heater, ho wants nothing but gas,, supply house was out sized boiler, wants a tank/pump condensate set up but left open how to heat hot water zone, suggest indirect heater, or a heat exchanger, or off the boiler itself keeping zone filed with water... what do you suggest, they want to use a weil mc clain gas fired boiler, any suggestions, ho does not want any major pipe or rad changes other then in basement,,, thanks

"wants a tank/pump condensate set up"
Why? It's not necessary
"they want to use a weil mc clain gas fired boiler"
They need to use a correctly sized boiler. That may, or may not be a Weil Mclain boiler.0 -
If you are not intimate with steam systems and the details of a properly piped condensate heating loop, DO NOT let your supply house design one for you. At a minimum, bring the proposed design here and let the steam wizards have a gander at it. Better yet, hire one of them for a short consult.

There is some information here for you.

I will agree with what has been said already, make sure they boiler is properly sized to the load. Did they do a full EDR calculation? Why would you need to add a condensate tank and pump if there isn't one now? Gravity return is always the preferred method unless there is some circumstance that you can't do it. From what you are saying there isn't one now so you shouldn't need one on the new. If you and the supply house aren't steam experts I suggest what has already been said, get someone involved that is. The devil is in the details with steam. There is a ton of knowledge on this site that can help you do a fantastic install if you are willing to listen and learn.0
