Premature aging of cast iron boiler

I am considering the issues of using a cold start cast iron boiler to heat an 40 gallon indirect stainless steel indirect domestic water heater. First the wear and tear during the summer months when boiler is normally idle vs Short cycling of boiler, condensations issues from low run time, and other factors/insights that hopefully you provide to help me contemplate effectiveness and efficiency of this type of system.
