Cold radiator

Hi folks,

I have three radiators in my living room. Currently two of them is ice cold and the other is working nicely. I'd like to try and resolve them one at a time. The radiator in question now had a leak at the shut off valve. After I tightened and sealed that leak with plumbers tape and pipe dope I no longer got heat there. The valve is open. Any ideas? Also, please take a look at the attached pic. This is the air vent on the radiator. Is this traditional? I do not see a hole where the air can escape. As always I really appreciate all the advice.

Thanks,

My guess is that vent is stuck closed and not letting air out so steam can get into the radiaator. Replace that vent with another one, maybe a Hoffman #40 or something similar. A Hoffman 1A will let you adjust the venting for faster or slower air venting. Vent-Rite 1's are also good vents. Maid-O Mist also makes one that has 5 different orifices so you can adjust venting speed.
