Geez. All this time I thought Joyce's story about Finnegan's Wake was about what The Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem sang about in the song Finnegan's Wake. Where, Finnegan goes out and has a few too many Guinness's wakes up in the morning with a head ache, falls down, hits his head, and everyone thought he was dead. So they had a Wake for him. Bridie brought out punch, which they all enjoyed. Then got to arguing and fighting. Some of that Punch, AKA as Holy Water, splashed upon Finnegan, and he awoke from the dead.

Was once a popular song in bars around Dublin. Or so the Clancy Brothers said. And a Favorite of Joyce's.

I grew up listening to them... great memories. Coincidentally I moved to Dover, NH after I graduated college...the town where Tommy Makem also settled and raised his family. Tommy passed away a few years back and is actually buried less than a mile from my house.
