hi we have a Harman sf 3500 a coal furnace and it burns out in either the front or the back when dampened down for the nite. can anyone tell me if this has happened to them and how to resolve it?

    Coal burners are notorious for being finicky. The old dead coal guys took their secrets to the grave. They have no Dan Holohan to guide you. There's a difference between burning out and going out. The first is that all the available carbon in the coal is used up faster then the rest of the bed, and the other is that the rest of the bed uses it up first. Some coal stoves are just better at a complete burn than others.

    Coal stoves are a PITA. 30+ years later, my wife still brings up the ash and how much she hated the stove.
