Hi Jim. There are several different ways that this could be piped IMO. Are these non-condensing or condensing boilers? Here are a few drawings to start the dialogue.

Kevin Pulver is working on a project and has a current thread about "Best Control for a 3-Boiler System" so the wood boiler PDF is one relevent to that project.

    Glad to discuss further.

    Best,

    Another option

This method, kind of the Euro approach, allows heat to get to the system without waiting for the buffer tank to warm. The buffer is still in the circuit to take the boiler output as loads cycle off, however.

Also you may not want the back up boilers to go thru the buffer, but directly to the load.

If the buffer adds value to the fuel fired value that should be considered. Usually the buffer in a wood boiler is mainly to allow for some storage during no-burn days, and to eliminate short cycling.

It is nice to use the buffer as a dual purpose buffer/ low loss header, but there are some compromises, depending on flow rates you may not be getting much buffering from the tank piped as a 4 connection buf/sep.
