Ice on regulator...

Would a natural gas regulator on a meter be effected by a build up of ice on it either through a storm or otherwise? I always thought that this would make it work improperly... I was recently told by the local gas co meter installer that this would not be a problem.... Is that the same w/ LP gas?

    The vent is the thing to look out for.......all gas regulators have a vent to atmosphere......and if they clog or freeze.....the diaphram will STICK in whatever it's position was exactly when it plugs or freezes. I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.......I have seen 25psi inside a house from a frozen over regulator, and I have an 80-year old friend who is still working as a consultant for law enforcement, fire departments and insurance companies on natural gas and propane related fires and explosions. I taught the local gas codes licensing class for a while, and he brought in slide shows and talked to my students during every class.
