System operating Pressure

Two Pipe steam system client engineering staff has specified 5 psig at inlet of radiator control valve with 1psi pressure drop across control valve. Boiler are operating at 7psig. At last night AEE meeting Dan was emphatic that max pressure should be about 2.5psig. This is 1967 bldg. with years of hot and cold areas. are we setting up future problems with hot flashing condensate in returns?

yes
this system will operate best under 16 ounces of pressure [one ounce per floor, plus two ounces for the house].
whoever set it up that high was probably compensating for deferred maintenance/bad main venting.--NBC0 -
Most two pipe steam systems will operate at 0.25psi. That's 4 ounces. Ask the engineer where he got his ratings from. Does he have all of the piping sizes and lengths?0
