Taco Viridian 2218 circualtors - surging

Could use some help from the wall. I just installed 3 new viridian 2218 Delta-T circulators. I had to replace two of my leaking 007-F4 and through some discounts I got these at a lower price then replacing them with the old cartridge style. These suckers are loud, I was told they were quite (more quite then the bumble bee) but the are much louder then the old ones ( I guess it's all relative). I can live with the sound of the motor but they seem to surging ( a low pitch "ra, ra") sound. Has any one had any experience with these? Any suggestions? I can hear the sound through the whole house. It's actually quitter closer to the pumps then it is further away.

  • Boston, please send me your contact information (stetho@taco-hvac.com). We'll get you three new ones ASAP.

To make a long story short, we found a software issue in our electronics causing this in a very few installs. Seems like you hit a bad series - sorry about that. Didn't see this at all when we did our extensive lab testing.

This is a new product. The limited "Beta Launch" catches these issues. Fortunately problems with the new VT 2218 have been very minimal, allowing us to work through the solutions very quickly...

Steve was very quick to respond to this issue. He contacted me right away and got a plan in place just as fast. I'm hugely impressed with Taco and Steve.

    Steve
I have a bumble bee that surges also I switched it from Delta T to constant pressure #2 mode and it still does it ? is this normal ? Did it from day one installed December Thanks Dan
  • Danscrew - I don't believe any system reactive (delta P or delta T) circ should surge or "hunt" - "under normal circumstances". They are all programmed to react kind of slow to avoid this.

But saying this, rapid changes in system pressures or trying to run the circ below it's minimum speed might cause this.

Our new VT 2218 has a lower min speed than the Bee. Recommend you replace the Bee with the new VT 2218. We'll cover this under warranty regardless of if system related or not.

Send me your address and we'll get a new one sent out (give me a couple of weeks so we can be sure we have the last bit of de-bugging done).
