Water Hammer in a 1917 Historic Courthouse

My name is John West -The Mech Sys Supervisor with Chesterfield County and John Hendrick -The Technician is assisting with over 20+ years of Gas and Boiler Experience.

We are limited on Steam Boiler Experience.

We have a 1917 Historic Courthouse that continues to have water hammer.

This System has advanced from Coal to Oil to Gas.

2010-The old Kewanee and Spencer were replaced with Cleaver Brooks Clearfire boilers-CFH-40.

Through the years there have been minor modifications such as a Electronic Valve on Supply from Steam Header to shut off 90 Minutes 2 cycles at night to allow the one pipe system to drain back but there are no Traps to allow the Supply to drain ?

Combined in this system, There has been a Air Handler with staem heat and 2 Pipes.

We are running at 2 PSI steam pressure and this Boiler system handles 2 Heat Exchanges in 2 other buildings.

We are trying 1 PSI to see if that helps due to noticing the trap at the farthest converter bleeding a lot of water off into a pit.

We are trying to understand Loop Seals, Not sure if we have any due to little access, Would you have any Pictures of a Loop Seal.

With no traps for Condensate return and Steam Valve allowing the system to shut off but Trapping the Condensate on one pipe steam side.

Please look at the new type Radiators installed, John Hendrick is holding a Water dish in front of one, Do these look Appropriate.

We are having Tube Failure on one of the Boilers now, Less than 5 Years Old.

The LOU-Tate-Old Courts Picture shows the Electronic Shutoff Valve up top.

Please give us your Thoughts, Thank you for any help you can provide.

Try posting the pics as JPEGs that are less than about 600x480- these always work for me.
