its amazing what works, call for no heat
and found a loose t-stat connection.
when fired up ran quiet and smooth
took photo to show how not to pipe a steam boiler
1) copper return for rear underground
2) front dry return runs along the wall only about 6" above the waterline
no false waterline
3) no hartford loop
4) bull headed tee, header too low, equalizer off tee?
did i miss anything?

How much money has been wasted over the years with heating bills..Owner would never know that because his standard was set on the install….I know what your saying about its amazing how a poorly piped boiler like that can possibly work…at least thats what the home owner thinks….Its day will come, and away it will go...

    BAD!
Not sure that a hartford loop is required from a safety standpoint. The return is above the water line.

Not required but with wet returns
definitely a must in my book
You may not be able to tell but there is a copper return that comes out of the floor for the rear main.
Front return is up, but too close to the water level. back return is buried
