Arts and engineering

I know that many people here have the opinion that engineers are out of touch with the real world of making things work, which can be fixed, and understood by regular people. When I studied mechanical engineering, we had the same opinion of scientists. Maybe there is a new way of education here:--NBC

I actually have degrees in engineering and a liberal arts subject. "Creativity" is not something engineers lack, and emphasizing it isn't going to attract STEM majors. the reason there is a shortage is that we've been telling a generation of kids that all they have to do is get a degree - ANY degree - and they will be set. Engineering is *hard* - why put out that level of effort when one can just study Art History or Political Science and be fine?
