Boiler Trim Recommendations
R2.0
Member Posts: 99
I just replaced the boiler on my house, going from an oil fired Burnham to a Weil McClane CGt. It is cast iron radiators on a direct return loop (I'll have a different post on fixing that.) It was a 1 for 1 replacement, and I think there is some trim I should have added but didn't. So I'm looking for recommendations for the following:
1) Automatic air vent. The Weil McClane instructions show an auto vent on top of the boiler on a 1/2" (3/4"?) nipple. This one I'm going to do right away, because it's fast, cheap, and I've been bleeding air from the radiators every day for 3 weeks. Brand/size?
2) Air Eliminator. Over the summer I have other piping mods planned so I want to add an air eliminator. Or do I really need one? The old system never had any air in it.
3) Dirt eliminator. I really screwed this one up, because the system was full of crud. I flushed it as best I could, but there's no way it got 70 years worth of crud from those old radiators and black iron piping.
4) Boiler Chemical Flush - this is something I can do now. Brand recommendations?
5) Flo-Control: There's an ancient Bell and Gosset Flo-Control valve on the supply. It's 1 1/2" *flanged* - I can't find specs on this to save my soul. Anything I should do to/with this
6) I want to install P&T ports at various points. There's something weird going on with my system flow/pressure. As I recall Pete's Plugs were the standard in commercial/lab buildings. Is that still the case?
Thanks for any advice. I'm sure I'll have other questions/posts, but I'm trying to limit them to one general topic.
