So many different manufacturers

There are many different manufacturers of oil-fired steam boilers in the 0.95 GPH range. Is there really much difference between boilers with similar AFUE rating? Is price a good gauge of quality?

You drive a Ford or a Chevy ? Gonna get a lot of different answers. Everyone has there reasons for certain boilers. I have had really good luck with Buderus for boiler\indirect. Boiler with a tankless I like Peerless. Steam gets a Burnham Megasteam.

I do a lot of service and to be honest with you not a lot of manufacturers are making a bad product right now. All about proper installation and maintenance.

The two most important concerns I have when choosing a steam boiler is steel push nipples over rubber gaskets and maintaining very low velocity of steam.

I use Peerless on small boilers like this but I would still use both 2" tapings to keep the velocity real slow.

If you only use one 2" taping the velocity would be 33.33 FPS which would bring the boiler water with the the steam

    Good luck

Thanks RJMCTAFO and Paul. I looked up the size of the supply tappings for some manufacturers and was surprised at the difference.

The Peerless WBV-03 has a 2" supply and a size unspecified "alternate safety valve" tapping. Their ECT-03 is the same except the 2nd tapping is specified at 0.75" for "air elimination". Using just the 2" tapping I get an area of 3.36sq in. With both tappings in use for supply I get an area of 3.89sq in.. A Weil-McLain SGO-3 has just one 2.5" tapping giving an area of 4.78sq in.. A Burnham MegaSteam has two 2.5" tappings giving an area of 9.56sq in..

The size of the supply tappings is significantly different between manufacturers!
