here's another guy who is pushing steam-to-hot water conversions. Anyone can comment- I have:

The story of a rag, tee shirt, underpants, false teeth, toupee, lunch, and eyeglasses left in a pipe is surely some sort of urban legend.
They must have run low on ideas for stories that issue.
It's time to devise some sort of definitive test which will show how efficient steam is in comparison to hot water, especially when comparing two systems in proper maintenance.--NBC

And don't forget to count the electric usage for the pumps and associated controls.

Any pipefitter that is using a tee shirt to sweat a joint must have been the low bidder. I got my first Jet Swet over 25 years ago. Why didn't he just use a piece of bread. ;)

That story/solution is bogus. NO water would have passed through the shirt.

The story doesn't even past the smell test for me. The more I think about it, the smellier it gets.

Even the bread story. Bread in the presence of the universal solvent (water) will break down into its molecular components over time.

    Done!
I'll repeat here a statement an associate made to me today which really sums up the whole thing for me:

"If my old equipment would just die to make room for the new green equipment, I could have a bigger carbon footprint just like everyone else."

    He's pretty sharp.
