HAVE YOU EVER SEEN WORSE BOILER PIPING?

I actually have seen worse, but this one was pretty bad.
This was a 942,000 BTU boiler with two 3" copper risers into one 3" copper pipe into a "bull headed" tee.
The velocity of the steam in the one 3" copper pipe was 102fps.
Can you just see the boiler water flying up into the overhead piping.
You better believe there was banging.
We are replacing the entire boiler this week.
Since 1990, I have made steam systems quiet, comfortable, and efficient. We provide comfort while saving the planet.

Sure you can, it's just that it's illegal to euthanize human beings.

Oh! I see the problem now! No dielectric union between the copper and the cast iron tee. :D:D:D:D

    I've seen one worse.

Way back in the mid 1970's, the US Post Office renovated 300 Postal Sub Stations in New England. They had some program to help Viet Nam Vets so if you were a minority, or a wounded vet, you got priority. So this wounded vet (lost a leg) was a painting contractor and bid as a GC, on 150 jobs, figuring that he might get 10 or 15 of them. He got 140 of them. Because you had to take the low bid subs, there was an AC contractor that took the HVAC part. Many of the Postal Stations were 1930's WPA buildings. No AC. One pipe Steam Boiler/systems. The AC contractor changed the old steam boiler to a big Weil-McLain or Smith. To a Hot Water Boiler. Only hot water controls with just a Honeywell 6006 A to shut it off. When they tried to run it, water leaked out of the radiators. Everyone walked. My old dead boss sent me down to try to make it work. I didn't know much about steam but I knew you needed a gauge glass to see the water level in the boiler and you didn't fill it with a 12# hot water boiler fill valve.

We didn't fix it/ It was tied up with insurance and bonding. I felt sorry for the guy vet contractor. He did his painting job well. He was stuck with duds to do the rest. At least the boiler shown worked somewhat. This one wouldn't even heat.
