with some job photos!

This couple are long-time customers, since before we started All Steamed Up, Inc. I ran the crews when my old company replaced the boiler and added a radiator on the second floor, which required running a completely new steam main. We brought them into the fold when we started our company, after my old company was shut down. We have maintained the system since then.

The house is quite small, and the kitchen was about the size of a walk-in closet. They had long wanted to enlarge it, and this year they did. And they called us to install steam radiators in the enlarged kitchen, which also includes a small family/TV room.

It's great to go to one of your old jobs and see how well it's working. The first pic is the existing installation- a Columbia CEG-150 with a 2-inch drop header and three 1-1/2" steam main takeoffs. Remember, this is a small house.

The second pic is the boiler with the new 2-1/2" drop header. The first steam main takeoff is now 2-inch, and it splits into two 1-1/2" mains- one existing fed from the run of the tee in the riser, and the new 1-1/2" kitchen main coming off the bull, as seen in the third pic.

The new main goes up into the joist space and drops down after crossing the "backbone" beam (or whatever the proper name is) then takes a couple 45s and goes thru the existing foundation wall. In the fourth pic we see Gordo checking the pitch of this section.

The last two pics are the addition itself. First we see where the radiators will go, then we see them installed. They were used rads, which were stripped and painted by Baltimore Finishing Works, in Western Star White. Yes, that's the 18-wheeler manufacturer's own version of white. They also had two of their other rads stripped and painted as well.

We commissioned the new piping and radiators today. This is going to be one warm kitchen!
