How do you calculate BTU output for Sunrad type radiators?

I am looking at specs for recessed radiators. The only thing I could find was 240 BTU per sq ft/hour. Does this mean the square footage as in area of the front of the radiator?
Does anyone know how the BTU of recessed radiators compare to steel panel rads and cast iron baseboard?
