Expansion Joint installation piping

Recently we installed a steam system at a local college. I have never had to miter pipe and fittings as much as we did on this installation. There were crazy angles, 61, 57, 38 degrees. This was all installed in a utiladoor, we had no choice. We installed expansion loops and expansion joints. We put in slide type expansion joints. We had to rework a set 2 inch condensate, and 6 inch 100 psi steam. There was a question as to installing on the slide or expansion side mitered pipe to make the welded flange fit up. We went back and put our fitups on straight pipe runs, and put the mitered pipe on the fixed side of the expansion joints. I`ve seen and installed mitered pipe on the "flex" side of expansion joints in the past. There were as many mitered fittings and pipe as there were 90`s and 45`s in this utilidoor. Interested in any input.
