6 dead 25hp ac comps in 12 years on one system

. My one and only comp ( comp #7) lasted 18 years! We then shut down the system , dismantled everything and installed 5 little systems of 5t each! That was "public money" that bought all of those dead comps!

    Wow!!

    Sounds like somebody made the same mistake 6 times. What was the cause of the 6 failures?

    A few reasons

    Air handler return was 6" off a block wall. That's 10,000cfm. It was a "Hot Deck/ Cold Deck" set up

    System was run low on Freon, could not pump down into undersized receiver.

    Oversized "double suction riser" , capped off one pipe.

    Hot Gas Bypass/Capacity Control set incorrectly. Found that sucker at 4 in the am.Tripping the oil failure safety.

    Gallons of oil in the evap, 40' below rooftop cond unit.

     Plugged evap/cond coils

    Wrong "cage" assembly of TXV.
