I have a steam boiler Burnham V83 installed in 2001 that is now leaking at the top of section 2. One contractor is offering to replace the block only with the same Burnham model and another vendor will install a Peerless ECT03 for $800 more.
Any advice for this rookie?

Boiler
Which contractor measured the radiators to find the right size?
Is the existing boiler sized correctly?
Did anybody find out what might have caused the old boiler's failure?
Are there any other upgrades that were mentioned about the entire system?0 -
Thanks for your reply, J Star
I know that I need to ask more questions, but right now I am just asking if a Peerless boiler is generally considered superior to a Burnham, as one of the vendors is telling me.0 -
I'm assuming you're staying with oil
Burnham's V8 series has been problematic, but their MegaSteam is the best residential steamer out there. I'd go with the MegaSteam over the Peerless. All Steamed Up, Inc.
