Accurate Temperature:
Lower the thermostat to 71 degrees, First, get a known accurate thermometer and put it next to the wall thermostat. Give it an hour or so and see if they match. Thermostat thermometers can be notoriously inaccurate.
If you have a quality Multi-meter that will measure temperature, put the probe into ice water (fresh tap water with ice cubes) and check the temperature. If the meter reads 32 degrees, the multimeter probe is accurate.0
