Commercial Steam Boiler Pressure Settings
BoilerRoom
Member Posts: 3
I am working at a facility with a steam plant for multiple buildings. They run large 20 million BTU fire tube boilers. They run 1 at a time. The steam pressure is regulated at the buildings at around 20 psi. What pressure should the boilers be run at? They currently run the pressure control at 100 psi, with a 50 psi differential. Where should the differential be set? I figured a 20psi differential would be fine.

20 is fine
Hi Pressure limit should be plus 20-pending pressure limit of boiler and relief valves/ diferential minus 20.
During a cold winter, if cut in is fifty by the time the burner goes thru its purge cycle/pilot/main flame established routine, pressure could drop much lower.
If they have more than one boiler and/or they operate at 100 psi, they should have a sequencer that will regulate pressure set point at a hundred PSI by modulating burner. Usining pressuretrols is inefficient.0
