Two pipe steam conversion

I have a job coming up where there is an old two pipe steam system that had been converted to hot water. The homeowner wants to remove the old 2" steam mains and bring it up high and tight to the ceiling to make room for a finished basement. Any thoughts on piping arrangements? It has 11/4" supplies and returns to each radiator, I was thinking of a reverse return with 3/4 copper runs to the supply and return drops.

Interesting
The 1 1/4 to mains may be to large how many btu per rad, and the whole house,?
I have a question for the rest of the wet heads here
What would happen if you did a homerun method with an inch and a half manifold then run 3/4 pex to each rad then put a power head on the manifold and zone all the rooms like radiant?0
