I have a Burnham 4 section boiler, 488 sq-ft, with a single 2" tapping in the top for the steam riser/header. I will be redoing the near boiler piping because it was not installed properly and am considering going to a 3" riser off the boiler and 3" header going to two 2" risers to the two mains. Other than cost, is there any reason(s) not to use a 3" header?

Go for it
a 3-inch header will dry out the steam much better, improving system performance. All Steamed Up, Inc.
