in THE MAIN WALL
In an old advertisement for a washing machine and wringer, there appears to be a cylindrical "tank" just to the left of the three women on the counter. (SEE ATTACHMENT) It appears to have a pipe at the top that goes through the wall and some strange round shaped thing toward bottom. I keep hearing GUESSES, but does somebody know for certain what this is? Thank you !!!

    What it is:

    Its a copper hot water storage tank. The complete drawing isn't there. Its also a artist's rendition of what it looks like and not made too complicated so as not to detract from the object (washing machine) of the women's affection.

    In the fireplace, there may be a gas side arm heater to heat the water. Or a "Florence" type gas or oil stove with a coil. The cold water comes in from the bottom, the hot goes out from the top. The sink hose bibs are high enough to get a bucket under them so you can fill the tub. And drain the water out of the washer and send it down the drain of the sink. The tanks were copper and in two pieces, soldered together with a band like coupling. If you forgot to shut off the heat supply, the water temperature could get high enough for the solder to melt.
