Skim via Pressure Relief Valve Port?

Is it ok to skim via the pressure relief valve port if I don't have a skim port? I have 1-pipe steam system that's spitting water out some of the vents, and I want to do everything I can before resorting to redoing the flawed near-boiler piping.
Is there a reason for having a skim port installed just for the purpose of skimming?
The pressure is not very high - I'm still getting spitting at 1.5psi.

That is where I skim mine from. I have it set up with a tee and a valve so that I don't have to remove the pressure relief valve when I do it.0
