Seeking Advice on Two Boiler Replacement Quotes

Hi,

I would love some advice on a couple boiler replacement quote.

My current boiler (condo in Massachusetts) is a 27 year old Burnham which according to the couple plumbing companies who've come in, has heavy rust/corrosion and a leak from "the block" they believe to be either from the boiler or piping. Both companies are recommending boiler replacement.

Quote 1:

Remove and dispose of the existing Burnham steam boiler.

Supply & Install a new Utica peg112 steam boiler with electronic ignition.

Check out the steam vents on each radiator and on the main vents in the basement and replace as necessary.

Repack the radiator valves and check the proper pitch on the radiators.

Change out the supply piping on the Boiler from a 1-pipe system to a two pipe system.

Install a cold water automatic feed and backflow preventer.

Permit with the City of XXX

Wiring of the boiler and backflow preventer is included.

Includes two additional visits during the heating season to clean the boiler.

Quote 2:

Weil-McLain PEG30 gas fired steam at 83.0% AFUE

Re-pipe all near-boiler piping including main vents and

radiator vents

Re-pipe gas to boiler and water line to boiler

Provide new electrical service from panel to boiler

Includes permit and inspection fees with City of XXXXX

Includes 3 year complete warranty & 1 year Peace Of Mind

Service Plan

Both quote are priced around $7400.

Which quote seems more thorough? Which boiler of the two would you recommend? Any advice on pricing?

Thanks very much!

We do not discuss pricing here.

They both seem fuzzy and lacking. I avoid both Utica and Weil McLain like the plague.

Quote 1 - They are using the wrong terminology for 1 and 2-pipe systems.

Are they installing the near boiler piping in steel or copper? What size header? What type and how many main vents? How do they plan to "check out" the vents?
