Dissimilar metals (dumb question)
JPL
Member Posts: 10
I know this is a dumb question, but I've never done this so want to make sure. Am moving some old cast iron radiators and reconnecting them with copper pipe. Is it OK to go from the cast iron radiators to brass bushings and then to copper pipe? Also, in terms of a plug, can I just use a galvanized plug directly into a cast iron radiator? Thanks.

Closed systems
Yes, on closed systems we mix copper, brass, and black iron. Typically not galvanized.Steve Minnich0 -
I agree stay away
from galvanized I've seen copper and galvanize leak from corrosion in less than a yr. Get a solid plug, the cheap cast hollow ones can spell trouble if you ever need to get it out. I've chisled or drilled out a few in my career. On another note, we had to install ASME solid brass plugs on a HP steamer I put in a yr ago. The inspector pulled that code out of his.................... codebook.0
