steam headache

calling all steam wizzards,

have a customer that has 160 water in his indirect according to smart control on amtrol, cant even hold his hand on the tank. according to him when he flushes boiler monthly water has been hotter than usual. had one tech put a exrol tank on cold side and new t&p relief valve.

next problem uneven heating added new living space claims theres as much as a 10 degree diiference between downstairs and upstairs and also where they added living space over a slab that was formerly garage. btw one pipe system! had tech tell him picth was incorrect had another tech tell him disimalar metals cu and black pipe.part of my says run other part loves a challenge and to learn. HELP!!!

    More details, please?

    How was the added-on living space heated?



    Was the boiler upsized to accommodate the additional load? (Better yet, what is the total EDR of the connected radiation? Ditto for the boiler.)



    Is the downstairs 10° warmer than the upstairs or vice-versa?



    What parts are plumbed in copper?



    Got any pictures?

    questions asap! upstairs is colder & room that used to be the garage is colder. boiler was there they just added radiators with no thought that the boiler may be to small my bigger concern is the 160 degree water coming from the side arm water heater which i dont think is ever a good idea to add to a steam system.

    If the boiler is constantly trying to make steam then it's always going to be hot. Odds are they have the aquastat wired to shut off the pump when the boiler water is too cool to heat the water, but not when the DHW in the indirect reaches 135° (or whatever it should be set to). No one would have noticed that there was a problem until they overloaded he boiler and then the weather got cold.



    Check the wiring against the IOM if you have it. If not, what make/model of indirect are we dealing with, and what boiler?
