boiler capacity

I have a fairly new Burnham boiler, model PIN4SNC-ME2. I've tried checking the web to find the capacity in gallons but found only the BTU info. Is there a way to convert that to gallons of water that it holds?

I'm just curious as to the quantity of water that I'm having to boil every time I start up the boiler. And I want to determine where a night setback is really efficient. thx.

    Install Manual

There is a chart in the installation & operation manual.  If you don't have it go to usboiler.net.

    IN-4

The Burnham IN-4 holds 6.5 gallons of water.
  • Efficient setback

That boiler water capacity is not a true indicator of how much fuel is being burned. The same 6 gallons is being boiled and condensed and boiled, ad infinitum.

The most popular view here is that setbacks should only be a couple of degrees for efficiency. If you are going away for a week, then a deeper setback can save fuel, but for a few hours, the fuel needed to regain the temperature may cancel out the savings during the setback.

You could select the lowest temperature which everyone feels comfortable with and leave it there.

For real efficiency, make sure your system can get the air out at a couple of ounces,, and select the lowest pressure possible on your pressure control.--NBC

I see your point - while the capacity is 6 gallons, due to the recycling of condensed steam, who knows how much heat is getting spent to boil the same water over and over. And after all these years of training my kids to turn down the thermostat at night!

Thank you for responding and everyone on this website. My Gorton #1 arrived last night (thx to all the advice about pexsupply) so I was finally able to replace my leaking Vent Rite #1 after adding a few nipples and elbows to get the air vent away from the main line. I saw an immediate drop in pressure. I want to get a 0 - 3 psi gauge now but am wondering about the best location. I'll start a new thread about that.
