call a pro
Definitely need to call a professional to re-pipe at minimum the copper from boiler to old header--that needs to be black iron pipe and copper in header is the start of many a problem system. Also a professional should be able to tell what else an apparent knucklehead did previously that needs to be fixed like some of those mystery pipes.
So it sounds like the system could be building high pressure due to bad copper attempted header or the pressuretrol pigtail could be clogged. Either way you need to address the high pressure issues asap.0
