need below-burner shield for gas-steam old Weil McLain
Binnacle
Member Posts: 126
Was just vacuuming out beneath the burners on a 1961 Weil McLain E-9-B gas / steam boiler (256k BTU in / 204.8k out).
A reflective shield was positioned beneath the burners that looks like it was made of a cardboard-like material (asbestos impregnated perhaps) and with a reflective layer laminated on top. The purpose seems to be to protect the brick or cement below.
Unfortunately it was badly deteriorated and the vacuum finished it off.
Does anyone know what the proper description for this is and where a replacement can be ordered?
Also if anyone knows where a service manual for this boiler can be obtained it would be much appreciated. Tried sending an e-mail to Weil McLain a couple of months ago and never heard back.
Thanks!

Cement board
Or a piece of sheet metal may do the trick0 -
will do
Both good solutions. Think I'll go with sheet metal as clearance is tight along certain lines.

A Kaowool blanket
a.k.a rug, would be another good way to go. It is designed to reflect heat away from whatever it's covering. All Steamed Up, Inc.

too thick
Nifty item, but the minimum thickness seems to be 1 inch. Need something 1/8 inch or thinner due to components of the burner assembly nearly touching the cement.0 -
Thinnest you can get
is 1/4-inch. If that will do, Lynn Products makes it.All Steamed Up, Inc.

Excellent--that ought to work. Will try it out and update the thread with the results.
