System 2000 too much air

Question: Can too much air make a burner rattle the dishes?

A customer called saying her boiler was making so much noise the dishes in her china closet were rattling. She just bought the house and had no idea when the last service was done so I started with the basics, nozzle, filter, strainer.

This system is new to me so I called another tech to ask about cleaning it. He said they stink but only clean it if the draft or smoke isn't good.

Of course there is no place to view the flame. (that's why he doesn't like them.) But I did find the screw that allows for a draft test.

Draft o/f was -0.01. Draft breech was -0.04.

Smoke was 0 but I had no idea how close to 0 so I brought the flame to smoke.

I had to close the air shutter from 8 to 4 for me to get a smoke reading. Then I opened it to a 5.

The draft o/f went to -0.02 and breech stayed the same.

I put on the cover and checked the smoke again. Still 0.

I cycled the unit on and off 15 times to make sure the transformer was kicking on every time in case the rattle was from the transformer being erratic.

What does too much air do?

Thanks,

Marilyn

    Too much air?

Marilyn, have the tech call System 2000 Tech Support. preferably from the job. Too much air will lower the CO2 but won't make the dishes rattle. The correct way to set up the burner is by adjusting the combustion air for 10-11% CO2 over fire.
