Hello

I'm hoping someone will be able to assist me. Here is my situation. One

of my rooms does not get heat. It was working fine last year until this

fall. When the heat automatically kicks in I would hear the banging

hammer sound but the radaitor would be cold. It does not get any heat. I

check the values on the side to ensure it was not turned off.

    Steam system?

It sounds like you may have a steam heating system from the banging sounds you described.

If so, you might get more responses and advice if you post your question in the Strictly Steam section of the forum

    Only One Radiator

If it's only one radiator thats not working, it's most likely a venting problem. If the air doesn't leave the radiator, steam can't enter it. That banging you hear is water colliding with the steam. Is your system a single pipe or two pipe steam setup?

I assume there is a vent on the radiator. Do you hear any air venting from it? Make sure it's installed perfectly vertical and with the proper side up. If you don't hear the air venting, and it's installed properly, it's probably time to replace it.
