clean or replace boiler heating element

This heating element inside of the very old american standard boiler looks very… crusty is the best word I could say for it. First does anyone know where you can get a replacement part for one of these very old boilers or how to clean it? If it could easily be replaced I am sure my landlord would prefer to do that.

    I don't think

    you can get parts for that any more. It's some sort of conversion burner that was installed to change the boiler from coal to gas firing. These were popular in the 1940s and -50s.



    That type of boiler, according to one of my Dead Men's Books, is only about 40% efficient on oil, and is probably as bad on gas. It's time for a new boiler.
