out door condensor/ winter storage

I have always be told by some of the older techs  when shutting down   central air for the winter to cover the outdoor condenser , just the top not the sides to keep leaves and  heavy ice build up out,,,, and to kill power to unit, [ so oil heater does not work all winter,] then turn on a day before use and fire unit up in early spring,,,, is this a correct way  to prep unit for winter,,, thanks

    Winter shut down

That's a pretty good way to do it. But I highly recommend 2-3 days for the CCH to heat up the oil to drive the Freon out of the oil, 1 day is not enough ,especially if it is windy.
