new steam boiler

Hey Guys,

Having trouble starting up a new Burnham IN6 Steam. unit goes through start up, Ignition to full burn for approx. 4 to 5 min. and shuts off and then continues to restart to a point where it doesn't reach full burn. I'm thinking its the pressuretrol #L404F1367, which I don't understand. We haven't built any pressure yet? Could the pressure unit be bad from the factory? how can I test?

    It's either:

reaching pressure (check the rocker switch when it shuts off), losing water (look at your lwco), or losing flame (watch it while it's running and see if it waivers or drops out).

Edited: Could also be your thermostat's anticipator setting but it doesn't sound like it.

    Six things to check

The wiring on that boiler is on pg 28 (for steam) of the manual, pg 29 has the sequence of operation. If the thermostat, LWCO and pressuretrol are closed it could be either the flame rollout , the blocked vent switch or the the igniter sensor. Is the water in the sight gauge fluctuating wildly? the igniter sensor would delay the restart for 5-6 minutes.

I would also check all the wire connections to make sure nothing is loose, kill the boiler power before doing this.

    But...

Neither the flame rollout switch nor blocked vent switch would allow the boiler to restart if activated. Those can't be the culprits here.
