Conversion from oil to gas

With the high cost of oil we are considering the change to natural gas.  One company quoted a price two ways a new boiler or converting our 25yr old boiler.  Of course the conversion method is much cheaper...but would we be penny wise and pound foolish?  Obviously the efficiency wouldn't be the same between the two, but would it be enough to make up for the price difference?  Is there such a thing as a high efficiency steam boiler?

    Gas

At 25 years old, I wouldn't take the risk of converting the boiler. We've done it, but if the boiler fails shortly after, you can keep the gas burner but lose a lot of labor cost, and miscellaneous parts.

We can achieve as high as 89% combustion efficiency with our steam boilers. We also guarantee as much as 50% energy reduction. But, we do a lot of extras to make that happen.

    Is it worth it?

When you get a new boiler, fired by gas, which has been properly sized (not repeating what the old boiler capacity was); you will have less headache for the installer to adjust in the case of a burner change with the old boiler.

The new boiler will be equipped with a burner somewhat preadjusted to its size, and heat characteristics.

Post some pictures of the present boiler piping, and we can advise further.--NBC
