How does the "Contact this user" feature work

in THE MAIN WALL
I wanted to prompt a user to return to a thread of mine so i sent him a message via "Contact this user".  When he did not reply I sent myself a message and have not received a notification of it.

What should happen, a message here on the website or should I receive an email?

Or something else?

    To protect everyone's email address

    The software keeps those completely off the site. When you use Contact the User, it forwards your mail to that person, who can then decide whether or not to reply to you. 
    Retired and loving it.

    I just tested it by sending a message to myself.

    It came through in five seconds. Could be that it's going into your Spam file or your email program is preventing it from going through to you.

    I have checked my spam file and you have sent me email from this site so I don't think your domain is blocked. Ill try it again, knowing me I put my own email address in wrong :o
