Replace Vaughn TPI with Honeywell?

in Domestic Hot Water
We have a Vaughn Top Performer Plus indirect hot water heater (five years old), and a recent power surge has destroyed the TPI thermostat.



Since we're in an area that suffers relatively frequent power issues, I'm inclined to replace the Vaughn control with a passive device from Honeywell.



Any reasons not to do this?



Also, can anyone help me understand the differences among L4006A1678, L4006A2007, and L4006A2148? The comparison chart in e.g. <a href="http://www.forwardthinking.honeywell.com/related_links/combustion/glowfly/63-9575%20Resi%20Comb%20App%20Guide.pdf">http://www.forwardthinking.honeywell.com/related_links/combustion/glowfly/63-9575%20Resi%20Comb%20App%20Guide.pdf</a> (pp 45-47) seem to give identical specs.

    What kind of boiler?

    Does it have a DHW sensor input?

    Hot water heater is just another heating zone

    Not sure the brand of boiler. The existing TPI device is wired to a Taco controller and presents the hot water heater as another heating zone.

    DHW sensor

    Allows the boiler controls to read the DHW tank temperature rather than waiting for the aquastat to click.  This allows the boiler to better anticipate demand and avoid over/undershoot.  It's better to use one if the boiler control has support for it.
