Personally, I think the skill, determination and resources available back in1935 are pretty amazing. As far as the safety and health end of things, obviously I’m glad we have progressed to doing things a bit differently. Eye protection, clothing to avoid burns from molten metal are a few areas that have improved since then. I have to wonder how many of these fine gentlemen were able to enjoy retirement. The dust from sand casting has caused many a foundry worker to die early from silicosis.
Sure, a person could make a fairly sizable list of things that could have been made safer, but that’s how they did it back then. We learn as we go.
I do lament the loss of big manufacturing in this country. That of course is a different
conversation.
