MISUSE OF SPRINKLER FITTING ????

I ran into a job done on a commercial acct. where a wannabe butcher drilled the side of the 3" & 2 1/2 " steam mains & installed 8 sprinkler type mechanical saddle tee's. no swing , no nothing & connected to 1 1/4 "  slant fin steel radiation that you would use in a finished bsmt playroom.  simple one pipe steam system for huge retail store complex circa 1930. how long before these fittings leak & fail. i doubt very much if they are rated for steam temperatures. not vitaulic but a knock-off called " fitlok "   bob young nyc lic. plbr.
