Changing from direct vent to chimney vent

I have a Buderus direct vent oil furnace & because of the exhaust fumes I would like to extend a stainless chimney to the roof up the side of my house. Does anything have to be changed on the furnace to do this. I was told maybe I'd need a different burner...any help would be appreciated.

    NEED?

Nothing should really NEED to be changed, but I would maybe think about wiring it to get rid of the post purge cycle, and also I would have a tech come out to tune it after the change, get a combustion analyzer on there to make sure the fires is good, maybe change the internal baffle configuration...

If you don't mind me asking, whats the issue with fumes? Are you talking outside where the vent terminates or inside? The direct vent does save a little fuel and install costs, I tend to like it better than natural draft... Plus you may have a mini stroke when you see what double wall SS venting costs... To me it sounds like you need a tech out there to tune her up, I have tons of the DV buds out there and no one complains about fumes, you need to know how to tune them with a good analyzer, or you will get an odor and dead plants... I have seen plenty of DV oil units with black soot all over the house and burnt grass, always the installer and tuners fault never the unit..

    Most people in that situation

would stay with direct vent and get rid of the oil. But I suspect that burner is out of tune, if so it's easily fixed.

And is there enough clearance between the vent and the windows?
