Convert from all electric: oil or propane?

Options
Not my house.

Long Island (St James),  electric water heater and electric baseboards for heat.  No natural gas in neighborhood.

Starting from scratch,  what would be best new heating and water heating?  Oil or propane?  Geo thermal?

You get what you pay for...

Obviously a new geothermal would be the best system as far as monthly costs go, but the initial costs are much higher...

We are going to need a lot more info, like sq feet amount of rooms an approximate heat loss number, just heat or heat and a/c, and how many gpm the DHW needs add up to.. Plus a dollar amount budget wouldn't hurt...

Off the top of my head, I would say Propane condensing Rinnai Tankless for DHW, either an ru80i or ru98i depending on needs, with a Weil mclain cgi or Buderus GA boiler {direct vented}, ODR control, programmable t-stats, delta t circs, with some decent base board {sized for 140*-160*} would be a good start...

Now if he wants ac too, I would go with of a hot water Hydro air system with duct work and a heat pump outside unit, instead of baseboard for the emitters...

    This is the future

They are very popular in Europe and will be here too. Install low temp baseboard or radiant. It also does Domestic.

    Heat pumps are great

But not for all climates year round...
