Hello

Sorry for the newbie question but what function does a Circulatory Remote Bulb Aquastat do with a with hot water recirculating pump? I have this gray box with a dial on it that is connected to my hot water pipe and I have no idea what it does.

Thank You

    Aquastat

Once the water temperature reaches the setpoint, it turns the pump off.  They are installed so that the pump is not always running, saving electricity.  And when the water cools below the differential, the aquastat will turn the pump on again.

Timers can also be added so that along with temperature, the pump will only operate when the building is occupied.
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab
