Need Solar Science Project Idea for eigth grader........

Hey you"ll. My boy Matt Jr. and I want to build some demonstration model for experimentation to showcase solar energy. My gut is to do something with Solar Thermal but I think PV might be simpler. We don't have a lot of time either. Any suggestions? Perhaps their are kits that we could buy on the web? Thanking you in advance. Mad Dog

Can you make...

a very simple solar collector out of pex tubing and paint it black? It wouldn't have to last a long time so the pex exposure would not be as issue. Use a 007 and a small water heater tank... a couple gauges he and there.Viola!

paint will not stick to PEX

black PE pipe is really inexpensive and works quite well.  There are plenty of homebrew solar thermal collector plans out there.  Maybe re-post this in the Solar section?

projects and kits are easier to find. I took a small PV model car to Maxs class many years ago. Real Goods had dozen of projects in their catalog.

A simple solar HW would be a coil of 1/4" copper painted black and a small circ, or a thermosiphon set up.
