If capacity of air return line is less than connected sq ft of radiation? Currently have 1" return line with radiation sf of 234. According to tech data on system, max for 1" return is 200sf. System is Richardson.

You'll probably be all right
the proof is how evenly and well the radiators heat up- any issues there? All Steamed Up, Inc.

Issues, yes.
Continue to have no heat getting to 2nd floor rad. The rad had stuck Rich valve, which was replaced with Mepco orificing valve. The rad is not blocked, the Rich el is clear, riser, and connecting pipes are pitched ok. Possible prob is the rad is on lateral from main, 3/4" pipe, with 3 other rads run off it also, having a connected load of 90, more than Richardson specs of 80.0 -
Have you cleaned
the little air hole in the part of the Richardson elbow that sticks into the radiator? All Steamed Up, Inc.

Air hole clean
Removed el, air hole clean, pipe open, no sludge on bottom of rad.0 -
HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE
Recently I had a similar issue with my Broomell system. Radiator was not heating so removed valve and had steam, removed return ell and had steam. Figured problem was somewhere in the return. Got out the shop vac and left it on for about 10 minutes then reversed the vac to blow into the return for 10 minutes. Then alternated between Vav and blow about 3 times. Problem solved. Radiator now heats perfectly. I don't know what was blocking the return but everything is working now. Good Luck, Brian0 -
Interesting idea
Will try it, have nothing to lose. Thanks Brian.0 -

Vacuumed into vacuum
Used shop vac, initially blow, but duct tape blew open in seam, reversed to vac, and system went into deep vacuum, then reversed to blow, and water flushed out. Any event, rad still not working, heat gets to near or at valve and stops.0 -
I just had this with a Broomel
system I worked on. Turns out the boiler was being fired at 1.1gph and the system required a 3gph fire rate. If you throttle down other radiators that are heating well does this radiator heat better?Cost is what you spend , value is what you get.

Robbing Peter to pay Paul?
The radiator's riser is at end of run-out which has 2 laterals supplying 3 other rads. The pipe is 3/4", thinking by throttle back less heat to areas where more is desired. Wondering if re-piping radiator in question directly off main would help?0 -
Stealing
My system is a simple 1 pipe setup, but if I vent my bedroom radiator too fast my upstairs bathroom (on other side of house, on other steam main) barely gets steam and it gets it later in the cycle. If I vent the bedroom slower, that bathroom gets mighty hot fast.Single pipe quasi-vapor system. Typical operating pressure 0.14 - 0.43 oz. Add-on rad the culprit?
Throttled-back sevreral rads from each loop with no affect on rad not heating; then shut-off add-on to lateral that feeds off lateral to non-heating rad-let there be heat! Problem is the add-on is a traditional trapped rad, only 30sf of radiation, yet it's end of lateral to 24sf rad. Tried feeding less to add-on, but it seems to rob rads in question of heating ability. Would like to repipe add-on to other 2 add-ons which have there own supply run off main, but don't think it's physicall possible. Alternative move maybe to pipe non-heating Richardson to other 2 add-on run.0
