replacing flue tile in crown

Hello,
We recently had a windstorm come through and blow one of the raincovers off our chimney, but it took the flue tile with it. The tile was only about 5 inches with 3 inches above the crown. The crown was undamaged. I'd like to replace this myself but had some questions
1. Is a flue tile supposed to be so short? Is this just an extension for the rain cover?
2. What type of mortar do I need for setting in the new tile, I see that flue tiles use a specific mortar for heat, but since this appears to be set in the crown should I use something else?
